On the 13th of August 1883 I had the honour to address an application to Her Majesty's Government for ad- ditional salary on account of the enormously increased duties of my office, as well as those which were in addition thereto.
I set forth at length in my letter of that date.
2. Notwithstanding that this applica- tion was refused, I am compelled to bring my case, once more to the attention of Her Majesty's Govern- ment because I find that the continued steady increase of my ex- official duties, and the serious re- sponsibility to Government
